mim #102 - pillow box stamping

I am playing today with Papertrey's Make It Monday.  This week's challenge is to create a project using stamping on an assembled shape like a box or bag.

Here is what I came up with...

I used Papertrey stamp (super stripes, pretty peonies, polka dots, natural beauties), die (pillow box), ink (raspberry fizz, simply chartreuse) and cardstock (lemon tart).  I then added a ribbon from my stash.

dynamic duo #37 challenge

I am back with a card I am made for Dynamic Duo’s challenge for this week.  This week’s colours are soft suede and crumb cake.  Lots of neutrals which I love.

And here is what I came up with.

Part of my goal for joining these challenges is to force me to use some of my unloved sets.  So for this card, I pulled out my Bitty Background Blocks (from Papertrey) and used it for this challenge.  I also used Papertrey’s Embroidered Blooms stamp, Beautiful Blooms die, Birthday Basics stamp and fine linen and kraft inks.

Here's a close up of the popped up flowers.

january avery elle challenge

I was websurfing over the weekend and found this challenge over at the Avery Elle blog.

Avery Elle is one of the new stamp companies I have recently discovered and I love the fun designs of their stamps.  Here is the inspiration photo for this challenge.

And here is the card I created based on the that.  I worked with the black and red colour theme as well as the stripes found on the photo.

I used Avery Elle’s Framed Fonts and Picture It sets.  I also used Fancy Pants’ patterned paper and Papertrey’s cardstock and ink (pure poppy and smokey shadow).

I adhered the washi tape and camera using some dimensionals.

The Gnome Project

Last week, my beloved Tiffany gave up on me. I was busy sewing a project with quite a thick batting when all of a sudden I heard a whirring sound and a click...uh oh!

I checked and found that the part where the needle is located was bent. The needle was still intact but it was the part holding the needle that was damaged. The thickness must have been too much for poor Tiffany

I'm off to have her checked tomorrow to see if the damage can be undone. I hope it will not cost a lot of money, otherwise, I may have to replace Tiffany. Actually, my dream sewing machine is a Bernina or a Janome but they are quite pricey for my budget. I need recommendations as to what sewing machine I should buy (if repairing Tiffany is not possible). So please leave a comment. I would love to hear from you.

So, what's a girl to do without her sewing machine....well in my case, I went back to basics and started sewing with my own pudgy hands. I finally used one of my craft books and started making the Gnome Project.

Here's the little gnome ornament I made using felt and embroidery thread.
Isn't he cute? Here he is in his little forest.

And here he is with his girlfriend.

You'll probably see more handmade projects from me for a while. In the meantime, I need to know if Tiffany can be repaired. Wish me luck!

Till next time...

papertrey january blog hop

It’s that time of the month again over at Papertrey.

This month’s Blog Hop challenge is black and we are being asked to create a project that showcases this bold colour .

I decided to create 2 projects for this challenge, a layout and a card.

This layout is about my DD’s trip to the arcade during one of the birthday parties she attended last September.  She had a lot of fun trying out all the games there but her face literally lit up when she was doing high speed driving in one of the car race video games.  Should I be nervous now?  As for the green headband, I have no idea how it got there, lol.

I used Papertrey dies (modern alphabet, seeing stars, edger #5) and bitty dot patterned paper (raspberry fizz and summer sunrise).  I also used American Crafts thickers and patterned paper from October Afternoon and Studio Calico.

For the layout, I am also linking this to  Leigh Penner’s Pages with Papertrey Challenge #15.  The challenge is to use negative die cuts in your layout.  I obviously used the negative die cut challenge in my stars.  But I realized as I was posting this that I had also used mixed elements in my title which is also one of my favourite PWP challenges.

For my next project, I created a Valentine card.  This is my first time creating a card with a black base and I love the dramatic effect it has on the card.

I stamped Fancy Flourishes using Papertrey’s Fresh Snow ink.  I then added the heart border and finished off with the Limitless Layers: Heart die stamped with With All My Heart (both from Papertrey) and adhered using pop dots for some dimension.  This is my only Valentine set and I don’t think I need anything else. Love it!

Here is a close up of my hearts...

Thanks for stopping by and happy hopping!

mim #101 and CAS-ual Fridays # 86

I am really enjoying participating in challenges lately.  This time, there is an interesting challenge over at Papertrey on Layered Embossing.  Confession time... I have not tried embossing before although I had good intentions.  I have my embossing powders and heat gun to prove it.  Somehow,  I just feel intimidated with that technique.  I finally gathered up the courage to try this and it was a lot of fun.

I also checked what is happening over at CAS-ual Fridays and found that this week's challenge is to create a CAS (clean and simple) card that has a long and short side.  Sounds fun!

I made this card for a friend who will be celebrating her birthday in Feb.  Here is my 4x8 card...

I used Papertrey Ink stamp (Sentiment Signs, Ribbons and Bows, Funky Florals), cardstock (berry sorbet), ink (smokey shadow) and patterned paper (striped smokey shadow).  I also used Versamark ink, SU white embossing powder and Ranger polysparkle powder. Love the shine and sparkle from the clear embossing powder.

dynamic duo #36- red and black take 2

I had so much fun working with the red and black combo for this week's Dynamic Duo challenge that I felt inspired to make another project.

This time, I made a layout of my DD's recent "experiment" which resulted to her nearly losing all her bangs. This is my first layout for 2013 and what a way to start the year!  I hope it is not an indication of what this year will bring.

Here is my layout...

I used Papertrey dies (modern alphabet, fabulous frames),stamp (label basics, way to go kiddo for the journaling lines), buttons and patterns paper (pure poppy bitty dot).  I also used paper from My Mind's Eye, Studio Calico and Simple Stories, washi tape and some tags from my stash.

Close up of my fun embellishment cluster.  As for the headband, I am not sure why she suddenly had the urge to wear it after her little accident, lol.

And a close up of the journaling...

dynamic duo #36- red and black

I recently discovered the Dynamic Duo blog which is a two-colour challenge blog. Each week, there are two colours for us to use to create a card, scrapbook page, craft or digital project.  Only the two colours, otherwise known as the "Dynamic Duo", may be used for the project. Neutrals such as black, white, vanilla, skin colours and kraft are also welcome.

I find these challenges helpful as a jump off point and they make completing projects (esp cards) go a lot faster. If you are like me, deciding which colours to use is not always an easy exercise.  So this certainly helps take the guess work out of the equation.

This week’s Dynamic Duo is black and red, with bonus for projects with a Valentine theme.  I decided to use this challenge to make a Valentine card for my DD’s teacher.  Since I plan to include this to a set of handmade cards, I wanted it to be smaller than a normal A2 card.  Here is the 4x4 square card I made.

I used Papertrey’s With All My Heart set and the Limitless Layers Heart die (how cute is that heart border!).  I also used Papertrey ink (pure poppy and smokey shadow), cardstock (pure poppy and stamper’s white) and some Smash washi tape.

Here are the cards I made for this special teacher using the Happy Trails set…

They come with matching envelopes.

And I packaged it like this.
