Thowback Thursday

Do you remember the chair from my post last year, Trash to Treasure (coincidentally, another post with a double "T" in the title)?  My hubby picked up this chair from the dumpster last year.

We decided to give the chair a new lease of life and here it is now...

Have a Terrific Thursday to All!

pwp #7 - it's all the little moments

One of our pleasant discoveries last summer was a place called Scarborough Bluffs.  It is an absolutely gorgeous and unique place to visit in Toronto.  We’ve been in Toronto for a while and were completely surprised by how awesome this place is.  The view overlooking Lake Ontario was simply fabulous.  Nearby, there is Bluffer’s Park, a marina and beach where one can just hang out and people watch.

Here is my layout…

I used Papertrey’s Beautiful Blessings stamp set, Hawaiian Shores bitty dots patterned paper and double ended, heart-to-heart, wine tag and countdown details dies.  The 3x4 card is from Michael's and the striped patterned paper is from Simple Stories.  I also used some enamel dots from MME.

I am also linking this to Leigh Penner’s Pages with Papertrey Challenge here which is to use a Papertrey sentiment stamp on your layout.  Beautiful Blessings is one of my favourite sentiment stamps and being able to use it on layouts like this is such a bonus.

ghoulish goodness

This is the week we all get high on sugar from hundreds of little Halloween treats we will be snacking on for days after Trick or Treating is even over.  No doubt it is the highlight of the fall season for me!

I love Halloween themed cakes simply because you have the platform for dark and macabre creativity which you can never really express in a typical wedding or birthday cake.

I recently made a couple of Halloween themed birthday cakes- one for a Tim Burton (Corpse Bride, Edward Scissorhands, Nightmare Before Christmas) fan, and the other for a little boy whose birthday falls on Halloween night.

A Nightmare Before Christmas Sweet 16th birthday cake

pwp #22 - in and around banff

Here is my last installment of our memorable Banff vacation last summer.  I want to remember the many wonderful places we visited during that trip.  I thought that a grid layout is my best bet to capture that.  Here it is…

I used Papertrey’s Headline Alphabet dies and Postmarks stamp set.  I also used a tag from my stash and made a small dent to my washi tape collection by wrapping an airmail strip and black polka dot tape around it. I finished it off with some enamel dots from Teresa Collins.

Some close ups…

I am also linking this to Leigh Penner’s Pages with Papertrey Challenge #22 here which is to stamp on something other than cardstock.  Here, I stamped my postmark image on to my tag.

"Get Well Soon" Care Package

My friend Carol Ann and I attended a trick-or-treat function at the zoo recently.  Although the event was a lot of fun, we both caught the bug from handing out candies to almost 800 kids.

I was able to shake off the sniffles but Carol Ann is still feeling under the weather.   So, I decided to put together a care package for her.

From my pile of goodies, I pulled out honey and tea, my surefire remedy to any ailment (at least, that's why I think).

To package the gift, I made a gift box to make the present extra special.

I hope the care package makes her feel better or at least let her know that someone is looking out for her.

Enjoy your weekend and have a fun & safe Halloween!

october papertrey blog hop

It's that time of the month again... Papertrey's Monthly Blog Hop

This time, the challenge is to create a quick set of five gift tags.  Here is the inspiration photo.

My DD is having a circus-themed birthday party in November.  So my mind is not on Christmas mode yet.  For this challenge, I whipped up some tags to be used for her loot bags.  Here are some of them...

I used Papertrey's various Tag Sale dies (#3, 5, 6 and 7), vintage cream cardstock and my new favourite Antique Alphabet stamp set.  The ferris wheel image is from Lawn Fawn's Admit One set.  I simply coloured it with my copic markers and called it a day!

Since my supplies are out, I whipped out another set of tags for general birthday gift giving.  I used the same tag dies together with the Trendy Trees dies. The "to" and "from" are from one of the Fillable Frames sets. These ones have a more autumn feel to them.

Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of the blog hop!

a beautiful fall wedding

A multi-tiered fall wedding cake with multi-flavours.  This is Sarah and Eddie's romantic cake, one of my favourite projects for the year. A pair of love birds created by the bride herself sits atop this 5 tiered cake.

The gold trimmings on the flowers and the base of each tier are patterned after the china that was used for the wedding reception. The pleated design of the cake base complemented with tulle and crystal beads is taken from the bride's dress.

Stay sweet,

pwp #4 - lake moraine

Hope you are having a great start to your week!

I have another layout to share from our Banff vacation last summer.  Among the many lakes we saw, Lake Moraine is our absolute favourite. We love its stunning blue colour which it got from the refraction of light off the rock flour deposited in the lake from the surrounding glaciers.  We enjoyed the magnificent view from atop a rockpile as well as by the canoe docks.   The weather was not great during our first visit so we had to go back a second time the next day to enjoy it when the sun was out and bright!

Here is my layout…

Isn’t it gorgeous?  I felt like I was looking at a lifesize postcard when I first saw it!

I used Papertrey’s Headline Alphabet dies and bitty dots patterned paper.  I also used Ali Edwards’ Fun Flair set and a tag from Pink Paisley.

Here's a close up…

I am also linking this to Leigh Penner’s Pages with Papertrey Challenge #4 here which is to create a layout in less than 30 minutes.  I wanted the photos to stand out in this layout so I kept the embellishments to a minimum.  This page really came together quickly for me.

lakes and falls

Happy Sunday everyone!

A quick post from me to share with you another layout I made from our Banff vacation I posted here.  There was an abundance of lakes and falls in beautiful Banff and I wanted to create a page to capture them (and help me remember later on).

Here is my layout.

I  used my new Mighty Oak die from Papertrey.  Love that die! I also used a card from my Project Life kit and some letter stickers and patterned paper from Simple Stories.

Here's a close up of the journaling...

banff

One of the best vacations we’ve had so far was in beautiful Banff, Alberta last summer.  It was simply amazing and breathtaking!  We've never seen anything like it before.

Here's some sampling of what we saw... I have always been a city girl and hence not a huge nature lover.  But this trip probably changed that...

Rocky mountains everywhere

Bow Lake

Columbia Icefield Glacier Tour

Yoho National Park

My favourite photo of that trip at my favourite lake (Lake Moraine) with my favourite girl

I made several layouts of that trip and today, I am sharing the first one which captured the highlights of the tours we took.

This is probably one of my go-to designs when trying to incorporate lots of photos on a layout.  Works everytime!

I used Kelly Purkey's Right Now and Ali Edwards' Fun Flair sets as well as Simple Stories patterned papers and an Echo Park card.

Some close ups...

Bunny Softie

It's hard to believe that fall is here. Fall is my favourite time of the year because it's more relaxed than the busy days of summer. I also find myself spending a lot more time at home, watching movies, reading, and crafting.

Speaking of crafting, I went through my stash of craft books this weekend and made this little cutie.

I also added this little tag on the bunny's behind.

To our Canadian friends, I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Until next time...

santa's village

Part of our Muskoka summer vacation was a whole day visit to Santa’s Village.  Yes, you read it right.  There is a Christmas village opened during the hot summer months.  And it was totally refreshing to  hear Christmas carols and have some one-on-one time with Santa while thinking that your next stop would be that fun splash pad to cool off (at least, that’s what my DD thought!).

Here is my layout of that fabulous day we had…

I used Papertrey’s Headline Alphabet and Holly Jolly dies, Project Life card, Simple Stories and October Afternoon patterned paper and enamel dots from MME.

Close up of the journaling...
