mim#103 - die cut double up and dynamic duo #38

Betsy Veldman over at Papertrey has a brand new Make It Monday challenge where we are to create a project using a die cut inside a die cut.  Cool, right? One of the things I love love love about Papertrey is their dies.  They make creating polished and professional-looking cards a breeze.  So I dug through my stash and decided to use the Celebrations set, one of my sets that had not seen ink for a while.  I paired up the frame die from that set with the oval from the Limitless Layers set.  Match made in die cut heaven!

Here is my card.

I used Papertrey stamp (celebration, polka dots), die (celebration, limitless layers:oval), cardstock (rustic cream, pure poppy and sweet blush ) and ink(pure poppy).  I also used my Cosmo Cricket patterned paper and some buttons and twine from my stash.

Here is a close up of the frame. I die cut my  frame in pure poppy and sweet blush cardstock.  Then I ran the red frame again through my Cuttlebug and die cut the oval to create an opening.

If you look closely, I did some tone-on-tone stamping with some polka dots on the side and the flourish on the top and bottom.  Makes it more interesting, in my opinion.  I then used pop tape to give it some dimension.

I also added a black button to create some balance against the strip of black paper under the sentiment.  Lately, I have been using  black on a lot of my projects.  For me, black helps ground things and bring everything together.  When I think my project is missing a little something something, my fallback is to always add black.  Problem solved!

I am also entering this card for this week’s Dynamic Duo challenge.  The colours this week are red and pink.  I hope you can see the sweet blush colour peeking from the back of my frame.

By the way, Craftmates will be attending the Scrapbook & Cards Today’s Crop and Create event at Markham, Ontario this weekend.

We will be there on both days and we are looking forward to tons of creating, chatting and dessert-eating.  Lots of top notch crafty teachers, fun challenges, fabulous loot bag and an amazing photo booth.  If you are attending, drop by to say hi!  The four of us will be there sporting our uber cool aprons.

Thanks for stopping by!

papertrey printables

Hi crafty friends! Stopping by for a quick post.  Two posts in one day, that's a first!  And I have a special reason for that.  Papertrey is celebrating its 6th year anniversary this month.  And as part of the festivities, they  have daily challenges which give you a chance to win some fabulous prizes.  I never won anything before so this might be my turn, ha!

So today's challenge is to create a project that uses one of the images included on the free printables provided.  Head over to Nicole's blog to see the cute images.  I chose Erin Lincoln's flamingo image.  And here is my card.

Isn't she the cutest?  So sassy with her necklace and all.

I used Papertrey's white cardstock, quatrefoil die, double ended banner die, the new mat stack 6 die and sentiments from Mega Mixed Messages.  The red and teal cardstocks are from Michaels.

Here's a close up of the quatrefoil die. I forgot how much I love this die and I am so glad to be able to use it again for this project.

Thanks for stopping by and hope you are having a lovely evening!

one card, three challenges

I am really getting the hang of all these challenges.  It is something that I look forward to every week now.  Sometimes I surprise myself that I can make my card fit more than one challenge.  Such is the case for this card.  I am entering this not only to one, nor two but three challenges.  Talk about being efficient, ha!

Here is my card. I used Papertrey stamp (celebrations), die (modern alphabet, wonderful words, framed out), impression plate (woodgrain), cardstock (smokey shadow, true black, spring moss, aqua mist, hawaiian shores), patterned paper (bitty dot pure poppy) and ink (fresh snow).  Wow, this is a 100% Papertrey card!

I am entering this to the following challenges:

- One of Papertrey’s Anniversary contests where we were asked to create a project inspired by one of the Design Team's favourite projects.  I chose Danielle Flanders' XOXO card. I  love the dark background and the gradient of colour in this card.

- Next is at CAS-ual Fridays.   The challenge is to use letters creatively in our CAS project.  I used my different die cut  letters to create the focal point of the card.

- And lastly, I am entering this to Passion for Papertrey’s Love is in the Air challenge.  The project does not have to be for Valentines but should be love-themed.  I made this card for my Dad’s birthday.  His birthday is not until October but I want to make my cards in advance, lol.

Thanks for stopping by and hope you are having a fabulous week!

applefest

I am back with another layout.  I actually got caught up on my scrapbooking over the Christmas holidays.  I spent one hour here and there during my vacation, in between shopping, baking and wrapping gifts.  And before I know it, I finished 24 layouts!  Yes, 24 layouts covering our September to December!  It felt really great to be starting the year without any backlog.

So anyway, back to my layout... I made one for our apple picking outing last September.  The weather and my daughter cooperated that time so I was able to take great photos of that day.

I used Papertrey’s modern alphabet dies, loop de loop die, Fruit Fusion: Apple stamp and die, Lovely Layers die for the small flower, twine, some distressed dots patterned paper and black cardstock.  I also used Simple Stories’ Summer Fresh collection (have I told you how much I love that patterned paper?).

Thanks for stopping by!

moxie fab's challenge - itty bitty card

I made a card for Moxie Fab’s Itty Bitty Card challenge.   The task is to create a card that is no larger than 3” x 3”.  With Valentine’s Day around the corner, I thought this challenge is perfect for creating little note cards to give to friends on love day.

Here is the 3x3 card I created.

I used my latest Papertrey favourites, With All My Heart stamp and Limitless Layers: Heart die.  And since it is itty bitty and took no time to complete, I made a few of them.

I used Papertrey inks (hawaiian shores, berry sorbet, sweet blush, pure poppy, new leaf and smokey shadow).   And here they are standing in a row ... Just makes me happy looking at them.

Meet Mr. Foxy

I am happy to report that Tiffany is doing well. In fact, there's really nothing wrong with her. It turns out that I was using the wrong presser foot....duh! I overreacted and thought that the part holding the needle was bent when in fact it was really built that way. The repair guy had a good chuckle and told me to read my manual.

Yay! I'm so happy that I can sew again and don't have to spend money buying a new sewing machine.

Before having Tiffany checked, I was able to make another felt ornament from the Craft-A-Day book. Meet Mr. Foxy - he's cool, suave, and dashing.
How you doin?
Here he is in Paris
At the Alhambra.

I really enjoy making felt crafts and I plan on making more of these to sell on our next craft show.

Till next time!

black and white challenge

The ladies over at the Passion for Papertrey blog are having a black and white challenge.  I thought I'd play along and came up with this super fast and CAS card...

I used Papertry stamp (2012 birthday tags), die (doily details, limitless layers circle), impression plate (hello sunshine), cardstock (white and true black) and ink (smokey shadow).

I had a lot of fun using that impression plate and I think I will have it out for a while.  Here is a different angle of the card that shows the impression better.
