Canada's Baking & Sweets Show

I was like kid in a candy store when Irma and I attended the Canada's Baking and Sweets show at the Toronto Congress Centre this past weekend.  This event showcases the hottest trends and latest technologies in the world of baking and sweets featuring the amazing talents of cake artists, pastry chefs and tons of baking enthusiasts.

The theme for this year is Alice in Wonderland.  The stunning craftsmanship of gifted cake designers was showcased in the theme cake competition.  More than a dozen jaw dropping cakes were featured, and my top 3 are:
My personal favourite.  See how clean and perfect it is?
The details!! Incredible artistry!

The winning cake! Exquisite!

There was an eclectic gathering of chefs and industry professionals who gave live demos and provided insightful tips both on stage level and through meets and greets.
The lovely and delightful Heather from Cupcake Girls (with me and my daughter Sofia)

The star of the event: the cake boss himself!
This event is not just for baking enthusiasts.  Anybody with a sweet tooth will be inspired and entertained with the amount of talent, decadence and free mini cupcakes the event has to offer! Go check it out next year!

My kids high on sugar!
I hope your weekend was as sweet as ours.  Thanks for dropping by!

hello summer

It seems like only yesterday that we were saying hello to summer and now, we are very much into fall season already.  Here is the last layout I have of our Mont Tremblant vacation.

One of the highlights of that trip, according to my DD, is the fabulous day we spent at the La Beach Lac Tremblant.  Here is the layout I made of that day.

What could be more relaxing than swimming and playing under the sun all day?  Well, for my DD, it was having her Daddy paddle the boat while she took a quick nap on the passenger seat.  That was too funny and I have that memory captured on this page, lol.

I used Simple Stories’ patterned paper, Echo Park’s 3x4 card, MME’s enamel dots and Kelly Purkey’s Right Now set.  Apparently, ampersands are very trendy right now.

ruby rose card set

I can’t stop using this set which has remained one of my very favourites even after months of having it.  I made a card set using this set (and Dawn’s boutique border set) and cannot be happier with how they turned out.

I used various impression plates and sentiments and some of my favourite Papertrey colours.

First up is Simply Chartreuse paired with the woodgrain impression plate and Pretty Peonies sentiment.

Next is Aqua Mist paired with the linen impression plate and a Boutique Border sentiment.

Then next is Hawaiian Shores paired with the canvass impression plate and a Pretty Peonies sentiment.

And lastly, I have Harvest Gold paired with cane impression plate and a Boutique Border sentiment.

Here they are together…

summit

Last time, I shared with you a layout of our gondola ride at Mont Tremblant.  My favourite photo of that part of our trip was the one taken at the summit.  So of course, I had to make a special layout showcasing just that.  Here is what I came up with…

Again, I used a similar layout found here which was inspired by one of my favourites, Leigh Penner.   This time, I went with yellow and a vertical orientation just to change things up a bit.  I love this layout since it is high on impact but very easy to create.  This time around, I used Ruby Rose for my florals.

i {heart} gondolas

One of the highlights of our last trip to Mont Tremblant was our panoramic gondola ride.  The view as we went up was simply amazing.  Upon reaching the summit, we enjoyed a nice hot lunch, hiking trails, 360-degree observation tower and just lounging around and admiring the view.

The photos were not enough to capture the beauty of the place.  But this layout will do for now to remind us of the fabulous time we had on that trip.

I used Papertrey’s Headline Alphabet (once again!... I love those dies), double ended banners, Simple Stories patterned paper and 4x6 card.  I also used some MME enamel dots.

Harvest Season

Harvest season is upon us.  We are celebrating Grape and Wine Festival here in Niagara and I am seeing purple everywhere.

With my dad and father-in-law enjoying the sights at one of the local wineries
This inspired me to create my grape ornament. Pretty soon, it will be gift-giving season and my grape ornament will add a special touch to gifts from the vine.

Here's the ornament up-close and wrapped around a bottle of wine for a festive feel to a holiday or hostess gift.

Enjoy your weekend!

mont tremblant

One of the fun vacations we had last summer was a trip to Mont Tremblant in beautiful Quebec province.  The resort was packed with happy tourists and we were just glad to be part of all the action.  As I was sorting though the hundred of photos taken during our 4-day vacation, I found it hard to choose which ones to include in my layout.  So I ended up doing more than 1 page.  Here is the first one which has the highlights of the various things we enjoyed on that trip.

I used Headline Alphabet die, double ended banner die and striped patterned paper from Papertrey, Simple Stories 3x4 cards from their Urban Traveler collection and Fun Flair set from Ali Edwards.

Organized and Washified

I have accumulated quite a considerable amount of embroidery threads from thrifting and swapping. Organizing them has been on my "to-do" list for quite some time (as well as a million other things). Last week, I finally ticked this off from my list. It took a lot of patience but I was quite pleased with the result.

After organizing the threads, the plastic container seemed a bit plain so I took my stash of washi tapes and came up with this.

I think it looks pretty. Don't you just love washi tapes?

Enjoy your day!

fresh floral cuts

One of the popular stamp sets in blog-land is WPlus9’s Fresh Floral Cuts.  Everyone I follow online appears to have this set and makes beautiful cards with it.  So it seems like a no brainer that this one is a must have, wink wink.

Here is a card I made using this set.  I am sure this was inspired by one of the cards from PTI’s design team.  I am also excited to use the vertical chevron cover plate.  I love how easy it is to use this cover plate and how beautiful the end product looks.

Here is my card.  Don't you just love black and white cards?

And again, I seem to be in a habit of creating in multiples.  Here are the rest of them…

ahoy, matey!

A special pirate themed party was held last week in honor of little Cameron's first birthday and I was fortunate enough to be part of this huge celebration.

This 2 tiered cake features an edible skull topper made entirely of marshmallow fondant. Also edible is the treasure map decorating the red and white striped tier.  The sand is made of crushed oatmeal cookies, and the gold coins also made of marshmallow fondant are airbrushed with metallic gold tint.

The top tier is made of dark chocolate cake with chocolate ganache filling, and the bottom is yellow cake with Swiss meringue buttercream.

Thanks for visiting!

Have a sweet week ahead!

garden girl

Over the summer, we tried to stay outdoors most of the time and as a result, discovered new places that we never knew existed before.  Such is the case for Edwards Garden which is tucked away somewhere behind the familiar Toronto Botanical Gardens.

We enjoyed a fabulous summer day at this place just hanging out and enjoying the cool breeze and beautiful greenery.

I used an old Papertrey favourite, Trendy Tree Tops dies.  The stickers and journaling card are from Echo Park and the bitty dots papers are from Papertrey.

pwp #24 - catnap

I am back with another everyday moment layout.

Some kids need a warm, comfy bed to sleep.  But not my DD.  When she feels tired, she can take a nap just about anywhere.

Case in point… Here is a layout I made of my DD taking a nap by our stairs.  We are meeting some friends for dinner (and she is also excited to see her best friend at said dinner) so this would have to do while waiting for us to get ready, LOL.

I used Papertrey’s Sketched Shapes die and smokey shadow buttons.  I also used cards from my Project Life kit, patterned papers and sticker embellies from Simple Stories and enamel dots from My Mind’s Eye.

Some close ups...

I am also entering this to Leigh Penner’s Pages with Papertrey challenge here which is to use two in a layout.  It could be two photos, two stamps, two dies, etc.  For my layout, I used two photos.
