housewarming card

We recently visited Craftmate Aimee at beautiful Niagara on the Lake for her hubby's birthday and housewarming of their lovely new home.  It was a fun day of eating, chatting and selfies...

But anyway, what I wanted to share is the card I made for the happy new owners of a beautiful home.

I used Papertrey's dies (Love Lives Here, double ended banner) and stamps from Hanging Out and With All My Heart. The sentiment is from the Neighborhood set from Market Street Stamps.  I also used Laurie's gift hanger die.

Here is the inside of the card...

Fabric Swap

I recently joined the fabric swap hosted by Carla over at "My 1/2 Dozen Daily" and received this sweetly wrapped package from Joanna at "That Thing I Made"

I love how Joanna decorated the packaging with cute little stamps.

Inside the package was this gorgeous box filled will all kinds of fabric scraps and cute ribbons.

Joanna even sent me a handmade heat wrap which my hubby already put to use.

Thank you so much Joanna for the lovely things you sent me, and thank you to Carla for hosting the swap.

Till next time.

mommy moments

Every Mother’s Day, we try to celebrate it by doing something that my DD loves to do. Sure I can go to a spa and treat myself or have an afternoon of crafting all to myself.  But Mother’s Day to me is celebrating the wonderful gift of motherhood and so I always want to celebrate it with the little one who made it possible for me.

This year for Mother’s Day, she brought home a card she created in school with her finger prints.  This is the best card I have received from her thus far (love the clean and simple style of this one, as opposed to her usual colourful, eclectic style, haha!).  Then, for the weekend, we unofficially kicked off summer with a visit to an indoor waterpark at beautiful Niagara.

Here is the layout I made…

I used Papertrey's stamp (countdown details), dies (countdown details, headline alphabet and heart to heart) and some pure poppy bitty dots paper.  I also used Simple Stories' patterned paper and journal tag.

Close up of the journaling...

Since I used three types of dies, I am entering this to Leigh Penner's Pages with Papertrey challenge which can be found here.

of kors!!

Men will never understand women's relationship with shoes.  We can never have too much.  A new pair of shoes can make any woman feel alive, happy and content.  It's true.

When I feel the blues, my great picker-upper is trying on ridiculously expensive stilettos, walk around the store in them and I feel relaxed and happy.  No, I don't buy them. I just love the feel of walking tall in a pair of impractical shoes I cannot afford and in that fleeting moment, I am in my happy place.  (Please tell me Im not the only one who does this?)

Anyway, another shoe-holic celebrated her 40th birthday this past weekend. Darlene loves her Michael Kors shoes, and her sweet hubby surprised her with a fabulous party and a cake that represents her love of shoes.  I was lucky enough to be part of this happy celebration and made this all edible cake for her...

It's not the real thing, but I can tell she was happy with it, no? :-)

Have a sweet week, everyone!

Salad Table Part 2

I was so inspired by Craftmate Virna's blog last summer where she grew a "Salad Table", I decided to grow my own this year.   My backyard is very small so I can only do container gardening.  As a novice gardener, "tips" from readers are always welcome!!!

I selected my favourite greens: arugula, romaine lettuce and spinach.

I just planted last Victoria Day weekend and thanks to great weather, I think I will be able to start harvesting in a couple of weeks.

Happy Sunday!

papertrey's may blog hop

It's that time of the month again...the Papertrey Blog Hop.

This month, the challenge is to create a floral project based on one of the "bouquet builder" colour schemes shared by Nicole here.  I chose this particular bouquet for my inspiration.  Can you tell that I cannot wait for summer to be finally be here?

And here is my card...

I used my current favourite floral set, Cutting Garden.  I inked up the blooms in Harvest Gold and Summer Sunrise. The leaves are in spring moss and I used the limeade ice patterned paper for the bow which I made using a die from Lil Inkers Design.  I used Rustic Cream for my card panel which I mounted on to a Smokey Shadow base.

Thanks for stopping by!  Happy hopping...

toopi and binoo

I was delighted to find out that Toopy and Binoo are stopping by Toronto for a show this spring. My DD loves these 2  characters so much.  The relationship between Toopy (the talkative, imaginative mouse) and Binoo (the adorable, non-talking best friend) reminds me of my (talkative and imaginative) daughter’s own friendship with her loyal plushy toy sheep, Baba.   This is also probably the reason why she loves Toopy and Binoo so much.  So off we went to see them on a gorgeous spring day.

Here is a layout I made for that…

I used my current favourite products (these things are not leaving my craft table anytime soon!) – Papertrey’s Headline Alphabet for the title and Simple Stories’ 24 / Seven collection for the patterned paper and embellies. So easy to create a layout with this collection.  I am a clean, simple and fun type of scrapper. And Simple Stories let me do pages like that in a snap.  Love!

Here is how I used the 3x4 cards...

Mesmerized with her multi-coloured stars...

The 24/Seven collection came with several transparent photo overlays.  I used one of them in this photo to add some interest.

another birthday card

I have another quick post to share a card I made using my new Birthday Style set.  Don't you just love those sweet little dotted banners?

The balloons were adhered using foam tapes for some dimension.

silver

I have been married for 11 years now.  I love my husband to death but all you married folks out there know that marriage is a LOT of hard work.  (Remember Oscar Best Director winner Ben Affleck's speech? LOL)  It is for this reason that I have deep appreciation for couples who celebrate longevity of their union.

I enjoy creating wedding cakes because of its representation of true love and a dream of lifelong togetherness.  Anniversary cakes to me have a totally different meaning.  It is a celebration of the work and the devotion to the commitment and the promise of togetherness.  It makes me happy when people celebrate wedding anniversaries.  Silver, pearl, ruby, gold and diamond most especially.

They've made it this far without killing each other? Yay! ...Now let's eat cake!

Thess and Melvyn recently celebrated their silver anniversary, and I created this
3 tiered all chocolate cake for the beautiful couple.

I hope you all have a wonderful week!  Stay sweet!

dancing with the stars

No, I am not referring to the show but rather to our trip to the David Dunlap Observatory which is home to Canada’s largest optical telescope.  It was a challenge for me getting there since it opens  at 8 pm, a time where I would normally be found happily crafting or vegetating on our couch (yes, while actually watching Dancing with the Stars! (the show)). But it seems like a nice place (plus my daughter wants to) so I obliged.  And I was glad I did because we had a great time.

Here is a layout I made of that visit…

I used Papertrey’s Big Ticket Basics set and headline alphabet die (I told you I am addicted to this). The patterned papers and embellishments are from Simple Stories’s 24 / Seven collection (another favourite!).

Close up of the journaling…

The “Totally Cool” title is actually a stamp from Ali Edwards’ Incredible set.  Love the sentiments and the font on that sent.  I always wish that my script handwriting is as nice as that.

Another close up…

sketched shapes

I typically gravitate towards floral / feminine sets.  But thanks to Maile Belles, I am starting to love modern sets as well.  Her new set, Sketched Shapes, is my current favourite modern set.  So easy to use and looks very polished, clean and fun.  I love it so much I made 3 cards in one sitting, mostly a CASE of her already perfect cards.

Here they are ...

... and all together now...

I am thinking that this set is perfect for making masculine cards.
