i don't want to forget this

Summer for my DD means endless trips to Canada's Wonderland.  This year is no exception.  Though we were not there on opening day due to a scheduling conflict, she made sure that we make up for it the following week.

Now at 40 inches tall, she has more options on the rides she can try.  She was no longer interested on what she calls "baby rides".  Too bad cause I really enjoyed those!  She was also not interested anymore on having her picture taken with the Snoopy characters (which I also enjoyed!).

So now, she is into the Ghoster Coaster ride which is the "roller coaster for big kids like me".  I cannot tell you how many times we rode that on our first visit... made me very dizzy!

Here is the layout I made to capture the memory of that day... (I totally CASE'd Jody Wenke's fabulous layout!)

I used Papertrey's With All My Heart stamp (for the tiny heart on the journaling), bitty dots patterned paper and sketched shapes dies.  I also used Jillibean sprouts for the journal tag, sticker and 4x6 card from Simple Stories and Stampin' Up punch for the hearts.

 Close up of the journaling...

teacher gifts

Today is my DD's last day of school.  Wow, where did time go?  Seems like only yesterday that I brought her to school for the first time. I remember she was quite nervous and unsure then.  Now, she totally looks forward to going to school in the morning and comes home with lots of stories about how her day went.

Anyhoo, I want to share with you some gifts I prepared for her teachers and daycare staff.

I used Papertrey's Tag Its stamp and Sketched Shapes die for the flag.  The buttons are from October Afternoon and Papertrey.

I got the insulated plastic cups at Walmart and filled them with goodies like nestea iced tea mix and lip gloss / mascara (from our company sale).  For her main teacher, I also included a gift card.

Some close ups of the flags...

Doesn't that watermelon look so yummy?

I also made this small square card for my DD to write a note to the recipient.  I plan to slip it in the cup afterwards.

And because they look so cute together...

Are you looking forward to summer?  I am!

june papertrey blog hop

It's that time of the month again... Papertrey's monthly blog hop

This time, it's all about the colour gold which is very much on trend when you look at fashion, home decor and even paper crafting.  Here is the inspiration photo...

I was inspired by the middle photo, the one with the monogram and sunshine rays.

I do not have any gold embossing powder or gold ink so I decided to just use a gold cardstock and emboss it to add some texture and detail.  Here is my card...

I used Papertrey's stamper's select white cardstock, sunrise impression plate, limitless layers: circle dies, Hello Sunshine stamp set and Martha Stewart's butterfly punch.  The gold cardstock is from DCWV and the flair badge is something I won from a blog giveaway.  Not very clear on the  photo but under the words "take flight" is a feather which is also trendy right now.

Thanks for stopping by and happy hopping!

life with you is wonderful

Here is part 2 of my birthday layout.  Aside from some outings with friends, we also had some family time to celebrate my birthday last month.  We found a nice and relaxing resort in beautiful Muskoka where we spent the weekend just hanging out and doing fun things.

Here it is…

I again used Park Bench patterned paper from Fancy Pants (loving the aqua, black and yellow combo of this collection), MME for the black and white strip of patterned paper, spellbinders circle and scallop die and Papertrey’s Think Big Favorites #19 stamp set (stamped on the round journaling).  Not to be forgotten is my favourite set from Ali Edwards called Incredible which I used for the title.

I am linking this to Leigh Penner’s Pages with Papertrey challenge which is to stamp on something other than cardstock.  I chose to stamp on a patterned paper on this layout.  The circle border from Think Big Favorites was actually stamped on a patterned paper from Fancy Pants. And so was the Incredible stamp for my title.

ruby rose

I mentioned before that Ruby Rose is my new favourite floral set.  Today, I have a card that features the big, bold flowers from that set.  It is also my first time using the Cane impression plate  and I love how well it works with floral images.

Aside from Ruby Rose and the impression plate, I also used Papertrey’s Boutique Border: Birthday stamp set (love all the swirly details of this set), aqua mist cardstock and inks (pure poppy, berry sorbet, simply chartreuse, smokey shadow).  I think one of my favourite colour combos now is aqua and red.

Another angle of the card and a close up of those beautiful flowers...

Triple Zippered Pouch

Here's my most recent project. I think it's very handy and I love that it has 3 separate compartments.

This pouch is perfect for things that you would like to keep together, but separate, like cash, change, and receipts. You can also use this to keep threads, bobbins, scissors, or anything really.
Hubby is my "hand model"

If you're interested in making one, you can find the tutorial here

Enjoy your day!

birthday layout

Last month, I celebrated my birthday with lots of eating and singing. Here is the first layout I made of all the eating we did.  Makes me hungry now just thinking about it, lol.

I used Papertrey’s Ruby Rose stamp and dies (my current favourite floral set), Fancy Pants’ Park Bench patterned paper, Technique Tuesdays’ Cute set (how adorable is that "cute" stamp with an arrow on it?) and Favorite Memories set and Simple Stories' alpha stickers.

I am linking this to Leigh Penner’s Pages with Papertrey challenge which is to scrapbook some birthday photos and use at least one Papertrey stamp set on your page.

Here are some close ups...

cake for a dad

Brooks is Daddy to 2 adorable boys, Drew and James, and hubby to my dear friend Despina. Last weekend, he celebrated his 40th birthday with a surprise party organized by his sweet wife making this also an even more special Father's Day celebration. This all-edible cake is part of his surprise, incorporating 3 of his most favourite hobbies: camping, hockey and skateboarding.

Bottom tier is  Brooks' favourite cake, ginger carrot cake with cream cheese filling and middle tier and the tent is chocolate cake with dark chocolate ganache.

I hope you had a wonderful Father's Day weekend.  Have a sweet week, everyone!

happy father's day!

Hope you are all having a fabulous Father’s Day weekend!  I have a quick post today to share the card I made for my hubby and a recent layout of my DD and hubby.

I am so glad to finally have broken out my new Pedal Pusher set from Papertrey.  This is one of my favourite sets from last month’s release and it took me a month to find the time to use it, sigh!  I used it for this layout I made from my recent birthday getaway.  It shows my DD having a wonderful time biking with her Daddy by the lakeshore.

Aside from Papertrey’s Pedal Pusher set, I also used a journaling pad from Recollections (Michael’s) as my title, Jillibean Soup journaling tag, October Afternoon button, grass die from My Favorite Things and DCWV cardstock.

Some close ups...

Lastly, here is the card I made for hubby, again using the Pedal Pusher set.  So many possibilities for this set!

I used Papertrey's patterned paper (enchanted evening, pure poppy), cardstock, (limeade ice, stamper's select white), ink (blueberry sky, hawaiian shores, limeade ice, pure poppy) and various sets for the sentiment (embroidered blooms, mega mixed messages, pretty peonies and simple alphabet).

Here is a close up of the overlapping ombre stamping I did for the sentiment.

I am linking this card to two challenges.

First is this week's Make It Monday challenge over at Papertrey which is to create a project using some form of overlapping ombre stamping.

I am also linking this to this week's Colour Q challenge.  Here are the colours for this week.  Aren't these colours fabulous?

Sneak Peek

As I mentioned in my previous post, I am currently making a log cabin quilt. I am happy to say that I finally finished my quilt top. It consists of 25 12" x 12" blocks. Here's what it looks like:

I used very colourful fabrics so my teacher suggested that I mix in some white fabric for contrast. I must say that I really love it, especially the chevron pattern.

The next steps would be the quilting and the binding. I'll post photos of the finished quilt once it's done.

Till next time!

high park

So last time, I shared with you our outing to High Park for the Cherry Blossom festival.  In between our long walks, we took breaks just to enjoy the fresh air and take it all in, busy crowd and all …

During one of our breaks, my DD just had to have her popsicle. So despite the long line up, I obliged.   Because the outdoor light was perfect, I managed to take great photos of her.  Here is a layout I made of that day…

I used Papertrey's Headline Alphabet dies, MME's patterned paper, stickers from Simple Stories and cardstock from DCWV.

Here are a few close ups so you can see how happy she was that day :)
