The Gnome Project

Last week, my beloved Tiffany gave up on me. I was busy sewing a project with quite a thick batting when all of a sudden I heard a whirring sound and a click...uh oh!

I checked and found that the part where the needle is located was bent. The needle was still intact but it was the part holding the needle that was damaged. The thickness must have been too much for poor Tiffany

I'm off to have her checked tomorrow to see if the damage can be undone. I hope it will not cost a lot of money, otherwise, I may have to replace Tiffany. Actually, my dream sewing machine is a Bernina or a Janome but they are quite pricey for my budget. I need recommendations as to what sewing machine I should buy (if repairing Tiffany is not possible). So please leave a comment. I would love to hear from you.

So, what's a girl to do without her sewing machine....well in my case, I went back to basics and started sewing with my own pudgy hands. I finally used one of my craft books and started making the Gnome Project.

Here's the little gnome ornament I made using felt and embroidery thread.
Isn't he cute? Here he is in his little forest.

And here he is with his girlfriend.

You'll probably see more handmade projects from me for a while. In the meantime, I need to know if Tiffany can be repaired. Wish me luck!

Till next time...

  1. Oh dear, I hope Tiffany can be repaired! My sewing machine is fairly basic, but very good. It is by a UK store called John Lewis - apparently Janome manufacture them, so I guess Janome would be the equivalent. I wasn't especially pricey though - lower-mid range, I'd say. It's doing me proud so far!

I love your gnome! He's the cutest. I need to make something from that book soon.

  2. I hope Tiffany just needs an urgent care visit and will be out back to normal in no time. Sorry, I have no recommendations for a sewing machine. I just have my old (real old) Singer.

    1. I have an old Singer too and the older models seem to be sturdier.

  8. I don't know what things are like in Canada but I was talking to a sewing machine man today; he's been in the business for 40 years and he says a Janome is a very good machine. He is not impressed with modern Berninas as they are made in the Far East and are not anything like the older machines. I have an old Bernina, bought in 1967, and it's still going strong. I also have a Janome, which I bought a couple of years ago, and I'm very pleased with it. I bought the Janome because I couldn't get a walking foot for the Bernina. You could do with a walking foot to get through thick wadding etc!
    Best wishes
    Margaret
