Handmade Dress #2

Here is the second dress that I recently finished. It is from the same pattern I used in the first dress I made. The only difference is that I added a Peter Pan collar using this tutorial. I also went down a size smaller and omitted the pockets.
The good part is that I didn't have to buy anything as all materials came from my stash.
I also added a "handmade" label just for fun.
More dresses coming up soon.

Until next time...

I made a dress

I can't believe it's been more than a couple of months since my last blog entry.  Sorry for the lack of posts as I have been consumed with work related things lately.

Anyway, I'm back and I wanted to share with you the dress I recently made from a pattern I bought on EtsyThe pattern consists of a front, back, sleeves, and pockets. The sleeves were a bit tricky to fit into the armhole and it was hard to make it pucker-free. Someone suggested not to sew the sides of the dress until the sleeves are fitted so I will try that next time.
It's a simple dress with no buttons or zippers. Actually, it's a bit more of a tunic than a dress that you can wear with leggings or pants. I am so thrilled with how it turned out and I am inspired to make more of my own dresses.

I am already on to my second dress so stay tuned for that.

Have a great Wednesday!

Until next time.

Craftmates at Crop & Create

The Craftmates spent a whole weekend at the Crop and Create event in Markham, ON last March 1st to 2nd, 2014.  Aside from paper craft projects, the girls spent some much-needed bonding time just to catch up, share a few laughs and even [over] indulge in high-calorie fare.

We want to share with you a photo gallery of the event. Thanks to Craftmate, Irma for always capturing every occasion through photos.

Craftmates first major event for the year

Maria and friend stopped by to say "hi".  She peaked at our blog a couple of time and immediately recognized us.

A Lovely Package

I love sending and receiving packages in the mail. Nothing beats receiving some really nice parcel in the post. This afternoon, I was so excited to find a package that came from the UK. It was sent by my friend, Marion, of My Two Girls. I met Marion through blogging and found that we share common interests like sewing, crafting, and vintage shopping.

I tore open the envelope and found some nicely wrapped packages within the package and a box of Tunnock's Tea Cakes which is my absolute fave!

When I opened the first bag, I squealed with glee when I found these Cath Kidston buttons and ribbon! Marion knows that I am a big fan of Cath Kidston so she shared some goodies with me.
The next bag contained a set of crocheted coasters that Marion made herself, a gorgeous piece of Tilda fabric, and a set of sewing themed stickers. I can't wait to use all of them.
Here's everything that Marion sent me. Please disregard the open Tunnock's box as  I couldn't stop myself from eating one before I took the photo : )
After the holidays, I also received a separate package from Marion that I forgot to blog about. It contained these super cute cherry brooches that she crocheted for me.
Absolutely adorable!!!
Marion is such a wonderful, sweet, and generous lady and I am so very lucky to have met her in blogland.

Please do visit Marion's blog to see her various crafty makes and bits of everyday life that makes her happy. She is very talented and I wish I had her skills in crocheting, knitting, and sewing.

Thank you very much Marion for making my day!

Until next time...

Patchwork Quilt

Happy New Year everyone! I can't believe January is almost over and it's been more than a month since my last post. I've been busy at work so I haven't done much sewing since the year started. We have also been hit with some really cold weather and cold weather makes me lazy. On weekends, all I want to do is hang out in my pajamas and watch TV.

Last December, I was able to finish my patchwork quilt top using this tutorial from Jeni Baker's blog, In Color Order. I love Jeni's blog because she has some wonderful projects and tutorials that she shares with her readers.

This quilt is pretty big measuring at 68" x 72". It is designed to be a picnic quilt for those lazy summer days when you just want to take a nap under a shady tree.
Sorry, I didn't have time to iron my quilt before taking the photos.
I apologize for the poor quality of the photos.

I plan to finish this quilt before summer...just in time for picnic season. I promise to post photos once I'm done.

Have a great week everyone.

Until next time.

Our tree is up

We usually put up our Christmas tree around the first or second week of December, but this year we decided to set it up early. Having the tree definitely put me in the proper holiday spirit.
As you can see I have not wrapped any presents yet
We make or purchase ornaments every year to add to the tree and these guys that I posted here and here are now part of the  collection.

I also made these pompoms using my new pompom maker.

This ornament was purchased from an online seller I met through Instagram.
And this one was bought from a local craft show.

I hope you are all enjoying your Christmas preparations. Have a great week everyone!

Until next time.

Upcycled Crafts

Just a quick post to share some of my most recent projects.

Here's a vintage pillow case that I made into a market tote bag using this tutorial from Grow Mama

And here's an old wooden cigar box that I decoupaged and now use to store my buttons.

This mug rug was made from the scraps left over from the quilt I made.

I hope you are all having a good week.

Until next time!

Finished Log Cabin Quilt

It took me almost 6 months, but I finally got around to finishing my log cabin quilt. You may remember from this post that I finished the quilt top back in June. Summer was busy and I had other projects to finish. I always seem to have an excuse and felt guilty every time I would see my half finished quilt. Well, I've had enough so I finally buckled down and started quilting and binding. I'm so glad I did because the end result was worth the effort.

And here's the back:
I just love the little square yellow patch.
I am on to my next quilt which is a patchwork quilt using vintage sheets. We'll see how long it will take me to finish it : )

Until next time...

Cushion Covers

I recently had the urge to redecorate our guest bedroom so I decided to sew some cushion covers to bring some colour in the room. I used the vintage sheets that I have been hoarding and made three covers. Two of them were quilted using this tutorial from Fussy Cut.
Quilted pillow cover
This one was made from an old pillowcase that fits the width of my pillow form. All I had to do was to shorten the length and add some plastic snaps. To jazz it up, I added some yoyo flowers, a huge button, and embroidered the word "hello".

Close-up of the embroidery.
Here are all the pillows together
So there you go! A bedroom makeover without spending anything. Looking at the pillows just makes me happy.

Bye for now.
