Crafting for Charity

For most crafters, projects tend to accumulate over time.  We either keep them for our collection, showcase them, use them as accessories, give them away as gifts or sell them commercially.  However, another way to “part from our prized projects” is to donate them to charitable causes.

Sam and Mambo

Everyone knows I love my dogs.  It was a natural choice that I donated to a cause that promotes animal welfare.  Although the organization that I supported is no longer in operation, there are a number of charities out there that accept craft donations such as Because You Care”.

“Gifts in Kind” is another charity that is near and dear to my heart. Gifts in Kind distributes the “non-monetary donations they receive to the appropriate charitable organizations. One of the beneficiary agencies helps less-fortunate women going back to the workforce with proper and adequate wardrobe, hence the need for accessories.
Another charity that I love is Inside the Dream.  Proceeds from all the donations help underprivileged students celebrate their prom with dignity, grace and style.  They accept donations such as gently used fomal wear, jewellery and perfume.
My advice to fellow crafters is to find a cause close to your heart and try to get involved through your time or talent. Sharing, like crafting, gives me an uplifting feeling.  If I can do both, the rewards I get are beyond words.
