Last weekend, I was invited to a "Superhero Party" for a 4-year old. I wanted to make something special for the birthday boy so I decided to sew him his very own Superman cape.
I have seen a lot of superhero cape tutorials over the internet, but this one by Georgia Leigh is the best because it provides clear instructions and a free pattern for the applique.
I started by tracing the applique on red felt and cutting it. I then stitched the applique to the yellow felt using the zigzag stitch on my machine.

After finishing the applique, I cut 2 pieces of fabrics for the cape - blue for the outer layer and red for the lining.

I stitched the applique to the right side of the outer fabric (blue) and pinned both the outer fabric and the lining right sides together.
I sewed the two fabrics together but left a 4 inch opening at the bottom to turn it inside out. After turning, I ironed it and stitched all the way around.

I hope the birthday boy likes the cape as much as I enjoyed making it for him.
Happy Sewing!
I love this!
ReplyDeleteVirna, any super hero would be super excited about this cape. I remember buying a Batman cape for one of my grandsons when he was little and he wore it morning, noon, and night. I think you did a fabulous job! Thanks for sharing with Share Your Cup.
